Good mail!

I saw one of my manila envelopes sticking out of my mailbox today. I chuckled to myself and thought, I wonder who got thumped today. But to my surprise it was from an editor at Scholastic! I was so confused. I didn't think I'd sent anything to this editor...and then I remembered my conference critique from the conference I wasn't able to attend!

I must say, it was the most admiring critique I've gotten to date. She writes, "You have a strong descriptive writing style, and I especially liked your vivid descriptions of ____. Your use of imagery was great, and (young hero's) overactive imagination comes through clear and strong as well. He comes through as a very spunky, budding hero."

For her critique, she just asked for a few minor changes and some things to think about for the rest of the book that I might have put in the rest of the manuscript.

At the end, she writes, "When (the ms) is finished, I'd be happy to take a look at the whole manuscript."

Wow.

So, now, my dilemma. Do I search for agents or just send it to her?

Happy Birthday, Rex!

Happy Birthday, Rex! Posted by Picasa

One thing that was great about not going to the conference as planned was that I was able to celebrate my hubby's birthday last night! Here's a pic. The restaurant owner was so nice to provide us with an 8 x 10. Not many restaurants will do that!

Hurricane Rita...

Thanks goes to Chris Barton for suggesting I use Haloscan for comments. I was getting tons of blogspam. Since I'm using a different system, it wiped out all earlier comments. Sorry about that!

I'm very sad that we're about to undergo another hurricane. It's now affecting my life as well (although, in a mediocre way in comparison to the poor people of New Orleans and Mississippi.) I was going to attend the SCBWI conference in Dallas this weekend, but it looks as if Hurricane Rita will turn into a tropical storm by Sunday and hit Dallas dead center with winds of up to 75 miles per hour. I wouldn't be able to make it home until Monday and even that would be iffy. I'm very sad about this since I paid for the conference and it ranks up there with the best I've attended. But winds could change, so I won't lose total hope. My poor brother and his family had to vacate their home in Houston. When will the hurricanes stop? Sigh...

Blog Spam!

What's up with the blog spam and how do you stop it?

I always delete any blog spam. I don't understand why these people think I will ever click on their products nor would anyone browsing around here. AIY! What people do to make a buck. I have noticed that most of these people are from foreign countries, though.

Quote of the day

If you think you can do a thing or think you can't do a thing, you're right.
---Henry Ford
US automobile industrialist (1863 - 1947)

Someone gave me this yesterday. It's true, isn't it?

Gender genie

Got this from Lisa Yee's blog. If you put in a sample of writing, the gender genie will tell if the author is male or female. Since I write from male or female POV's, I decided to use my novels. One novel is written with a female voice and sure enough, the gender genie predicted a female author. But when I put my male POV novel piece, the gender genie predicted MALE! YES! Tee hee!

Give it a try!

There's hope...

Unlike what I've been reading in blogland today, I'm seeing real live care around where I live. I've been hearing real live stories about people helping people all over the south. Just as in 9-11, we were unprepared. We will always be unprepared for huge catastrophies. Why? Because we think things will always be the same. We CANNOT predict the future. I don't understand all this blame I'm reading in the blogs.

I've seen SO many people around me LEAVE--federal employees from the USAF and the Border Patrol who are sending boats and volunteering their time to help. Everyone around my town is doing something to help and I've been sent emails from people I know who are SOOOO grateful for the help and support.

People will see red if they want. People will see hope if they want.

I'm fervently praying for us all.
