Picture Book University

Within this blog, I offer a free picture book mini-workshop. If you didn't happen to start from the beginning, here are the links to the lessons. Each assignment can be done at your leisure! My hope is that by the end, you will have a much richer understanding of how to write a picture book so that you may either write a saleable manuscript or publish a great manuscript on your own. Each week, I will update this part of my blog to include every lesson. If you like these lessons, don't forget to subscribe to this blog and you won't miss a post.

If this workshop helps you in anyway, please let me know! I'd love to tout you right here.

Hi, I don't know how I found your blog, but I would like to sign up for Picture Book University. Also, I would like to participate in your contests, so I may have to start my own blog which I haven't done as of yet. Thanks for all the helpful information.

Hi, Sharalyn, I've entered you in the contest. I'll post your name by Monday. Posting on twitter and FB counts too if you don't have a blog. Let me know!

Hi Sharalyn,

I've been participating in the Picture Book University, but I didn't register for it. I found it through someone else. How do I register?

Pam Calvert said...

Hi, Christine--I'll post your name and you're registered! It's free. :-D Have fun!

Just stumbled across your blog and was wondering if it is too late to join your other "students" at your picture book university?

Take care,

This is fabulous! I wrote a picture book that got published about music, and I'm trying to come up with another one, but with a different theme and more poetic. Is there a timeline I need to give myself?

Pam Calvert said...

That depends on the publisher. They set the time limit for publishing sequels. Some may want it right after the other comes out, others want to wait to see how the first one does.

Hello Pam,
I just found your great blog and would love to take part in your PB University! Is enrollment automatic and can I just begin the lessons (9 of them correct?)
Thanks!

Pam Calvert said...

Hi, Jenny:

It's a free workshop posted on this blog. Just start doing the lessons by clicking Lesson 1. Do them at your leisure!

Hi, Pam.

I was delighted to stumble upon PB University via the Rate Your Story blog. I would love to dive into the wealth of information you provide, but I'm finding it difficult to read the words on the screen as the black font clashes horribly against the zig-zag grey/white background. Am I the only reader who's been bothered by this? Would you consider changing the blog's wallpaper/background to make the site more reader friendly?

Thanks!

Pam Calvert said...

Hi, Rita:

My articles are on a white background! I wonder why your computer is not loading it. Of course I would never have the writing on the zigzag! Maybe if you wait a bit, it'll load.

Hi, Viviane!

No registration is required. It is a free workshop. Just do the assignments at your own pace. I do have a critique service if you'd like a professional opinion about your work. I would advise doing all the lessons in the workshop first. If you wish, I can put your name on my site that will link to yours as a participant no feel free to grab my button to put it on your blog, if you have one.
